MINING METHOD MONDAY - SIDE STOPING AND BREAST STOPING!!

Side stoping is an extreme of combination stoping in which the working face of the stope is vertical. The face is parallel to the raises just as the face in flat-back stoping is parallel to the levels. Breast stoping refers to the working of a flat orebody, or a flat section of an orebody, just as coal is mined from a flat coal seam. That is, a slice is worked in a horizontal direction. The assumption is that there is no open stope either above or below the slice, or else the method becomes either underhand or overhand stoping. In some cases, the benches in underhand or overhand stoping are called breasts, and the method breast stoping, but I believe that is not the usually accepted definiti

THE POWER OF COLLABORATION!!

As the use of technology continues to expand throughout business and emerging technology solutions become mainstream, many mines don’t have the skills and capabilities they need to achieve successful digital transformation projects. Therefore, they need to look outside the organisation to leverage the power of collaboration. Collaboration refers to assembling a team of strategic partners with the right skills, capabilities, and attitude to provide a real and meaningful change in managing complex technical projects - CEO Magazine. With Kenn Smart's intimate knowledge of Surface Mining Earthmoving Equipment Application, combined with my advanced experience in Haulage Simulation Technology, o

SHOWCASE COPPER MINE OF THE WEEK - GRASBERG MINE!!

Grasberg mine in the Papua province of Indonesia ranked as the world’s tenth largest copper mine by reserve. The mine’s open pit and underground copper reserves as of December 2012 were estimated at 10.47Mt. The mine produced 315,246t of copper in 2012. Grasberg was also the biggest gold mine in the world by reserve. The Grasberg mineral deposit was discovered in 1988. Open-pit mining operation started in 1990. PTFI holds a 90.64% interest in the Grasberg mining operation. The Government of Indonesia holds the rest, representing a 9.36% stake. LAUNCHING PROJECT OPTI-FUEL!!

With the world slowly but surely recovering from the pandemic, fuel prices are set to increase significantly for the foreseeable future. As fuel is 50% of your mine’s fleet OPEX, it is a huge expense that should be managed and controlled by all means necessary. With the launch of our fuel-efficiency initiative, we aim to help and guide our clients to bank a substantial saving on their fuel bill. This saving can in turn be redeployed in other facets of the business in dire need of funding. This is not your regular once-off audit, but rather a 6-month partnership to ensure continuous focus and progress to reach the ultimate goal – optimal fuel usage. MINING METHOD OF THE WEEK - SUBLEVEL STOPING!!

This method is really a combination of several different methods of stoping. The figure is an illustration of the method, and shows half of the vein cut away where the stoping is being done. The miners go from the haulage level up the raise into the sublevels. On the first sublevel they will blast into the shape of funnels the raises that come up from the haulage level, and after working back, the slice, s, by breast stoping will drill holes at a and shoot part of this bench down into the raises. On the second sublevel the miners work back the slice, s, and then with down holes at b will blast the remainder of the first bench down into the raises, and with uppers at c shoot off part of the s

HAVE YOUR MINING MODELS AUDITED/REFINED!!

The world pandemic has caused almost every mine on earth to run a multitude of mining schedules in a very short time period, in an effort to strategise for the foreseeable future... More than ever, the time is now to ensure your scheduling & simulation models are optimally and correctly set up, and that the numbers make sense... With the model audit/refinement service I check & scrutinise each and every step of your model and adjust or refine the steps as needed to set up an efficient, optimised and updated model. The audited/refined model is then transferred back to you, and the adjustments/refinements/improvements are explained in a comprehensive report. This service is for customers using

MINING ROCKSTAR OF THE WEEK – SODALITE!!

Sodalite is a rare rock-forming mineral best known for its blue to blue-violet colour. It has a chemical composition of Na4Al3Si3O12Cl and is a member of the feldspathoid mineral group. High-quality sodalite is used as a gemstone, a sculptural material, and an architectural stone. Sodalite occurs in igneous rocks that crystallized from sodium-rich magmas. This is the origin of the name "sodalite." These magmas also contained so little silicon and aluminium that quartz and feldspar minerals are often absent. Sodalite-bearing rocks include: nepheline syenite, trachyte, and phonolite. These types of rocks are so rare that most geologists never see them in the field. Well-known sources of sodali
