SHOWCASE IRON ORE MINE OF THE WEEK – HAMERSLEY MINE!!

Hamersley Iron is one of the world’s largest iron-ore producers, with major customers in Europe and South East Asia. The company is in a 60:40 joint venture with the Chinese company, CMIEC, at the Channar mine and with Shanghai Baosteel at Eastern Ranges.The Hamersley Basin Mine is located 1100 km North of Perth, in the Pilbara region north-west of Western Australia. The mine consists of five major producing mines in the area - Mount Tom Price, Marandoo, Brockman, Paraburdoo and Yandicoogina. The mine is an openpit iron-ore mine that employs 1 950 people. Combined iron output in 2004 was 68,4 Mt. The iron resources are contained in banded iron formations with detrital and conglomerate haematite as the principal iron mineral. All output is transported from the mines by Hamersley’s own rail system to the port of Dampier for export - "Mining.com", Wikipedia, Engineering News.
